Tanu weds Manu {Movie Review}

Ok, so I have just one advise for this movie: even if you are dying of boredom on this weekend, do not bother to go for this movie. Instead sit at home and watch the world cup matches even if you are not a big fan of cricket or India is not playing. They would be more interesting and entertaining. 

Script is not new, cinematography is not very great, it is a low budget film. I do not definitely mind low budget films but they should be well made. Only two people shine in the movie according to me. No not the leads but the supporting cast - one is Madhavan's friend who stays with him in almost all the scenes of the movie and probably stays in his house and other is Jimmy Shergill. Well, I would definitely credit Madhavan for some of his amazing expressions but then we all know that he is a good actor. But, otherwise, Kangana looks horrible  in some scenes and acts even more horrible. She overdoes the very carefree role. And, I think there is some problem with her lip after she go the lip surgery done which is entirely ruining her face. 

If you want to skip it, I would suggest you do. You would only be missing the worst movie of this decade probably (ok, that might be too strong a criticism). And, if you have seen the movie, do add the reviews :)

PS: I read so many reviews of the movie. Is it just me or is the film really so-not-tolerable??

Saat Khoon Maaf {Movie Review}

I was so eagerly waiting for this movie since I read about it for the first time somewhere in the last year. Donno if its name or the author which drove me to this movie. But, neither disappoint you!! One of the best movies I have seen in the recent times and loved it to the core. Priyanka is fabulous but would have been incomplete without her co-actors or dead husbands. Neil is absolutely in the character, John could have been a little better, Irfaan Khan as always impresses, Anu Kapoor is good and Naseeruddin Shah is just himself. Her troop of servants do as good a job as Priyanka. The weakest person in the movie was the Russian actor. I actually found his Hindi difficult to understand in some scenes. But, the person who steals the limelight is Vivaan Shah. The new kid on the block and one who surely is as amazing as his father. He is the one who carries the film from start to end and shines all through. 

Music of the movie is one of the highlights. I am sure you are in love with all the songs by now. But, of course, special mention goes to Darling and Bekaran. They both suit the movie amazingly. O Mama rocks in the movie and I loved the song to the core. Awara is again a great composition. Didn't hear other songs so can't say much about them. The background score of the movie is as haunting as the movie itself. Direction and editing are pretty tight though they probably could have been better at some places but then I am not complaining. The movie is all sombre and macabre in character which many might not appreciate but then I am sure you are not expecting it to be entertaining. A beautifully etched out portrayal of an amazingly well-written story. You can find the unique traits present in Ruskin Bond's stories. The movie is two and half hours exactly and the time passes without any exaggeration of any scene or plot. The climax is a must watch so do not forget to watch it closely and do not miss even a single word. Ending is perfect and makes sure you stay in Sussana's world. You carry the movie all through day in your head long after it gets over. A must watch for people who do not mind dark movies otherwise stay away. Don't forget to share your views of the movie :)

{Movie Review} Dhobi Ghat

I know many of you will throw eggs and tomatoes at me for saying this: I hate this movie. Well, the good of this movie is that it is just 95 minutes long. But, trust me, this 95 minutes is too long to bear. Technically, I did read the reviews and was intrigued by them. They paint the picture of a too-good movie and raise your expectations. Probably, I was wrong to expect a lot from the movie. 

I do not know how to explain my state of mind while watching the movie but every moment I was actually waiting for something to happen. Then, things started to wrap up and I was like now it will probably give a reason for the movie or something. But, at the end, nothing happens. I do understand that this was a story written from a point of view of showing four lives with in a city which portrays Mumbai as a background character of its own. But I think, it could have been a story in any other part of the world, be it Delhi or New York (though New York does not have Dhobi Ghat's :P). Mumbai really does not develop as a character in the movie as it does in some other movies like Page 3, Mumbai Meri Jaan or Life in a Metro. 

Prateik is the shining star of the movie. He stand out with his myriad expressions and versatile acting. His is the only character etched definitely. And, Aamir is the worst in the movie, believe it or not. I think a new face would have done a better job instead of Aamir. Shai and Yasmeen characters are just fine. Rather, I would say Shai's American accent really starts irritating after sometime. It really feels as if she is trying so hard to fit into the character.  

I had immediately etched out a lot of different endings to the movie which would have made the movie more poignant and brought out the character of the movie. Though, I would definitely add that I was happy with the ending given to Prateik's character. There is no plot in the movie so do not expect any story to develop which will intermingle all the characters or anything like that. All stories run parallel and you can see The Butterfly Effect in the movie which is appreciable. But, I really feel that the story could have been refined a little bit. There are a few incidents in the movie which have been left unexplained but nothing comes as a shock which is what we expect. Direction was above average. I like the cinematography. Mumbai has been shown in its various colors though it could have been even better. 

My Recommendation

See the movie without expecting anything out of it. You might end up loving the movie if you go in without thinking about it. I really mean it coz I experienced it. There is a lot of hype around the movie but it is not worth the hype if you equate it to a platform of Madhur Bhandarkar's movies. It is different in its own sense. The movie will remain with you even after you come out of the theater which is a big deal. What stays is Yasmeen's story. I would say one should definitely watch it if you do not expect any entertainment and are fine with your two hours going down the drain which might not be so. And, yes, do tell me what you think of the movie after you have watched it. But, do not go for this movie if you are in a bad mood and are desperately seeking for a diversion.

Band Baaja Baraat {Movie Review}

Ohk, so you might really end up hating me for doing this but I went to watch this movie today. And, wanted to share my experience with you. So, yes, from now on, I would be posting movie reviews too(whichever I see!!). There is just one reason behind this. Some of the really good movies go unnoticed and many movies have false reviews online so I thought I might give my opinion. Before beginning, I can add that I love romance and light-hearted movies. But, then, I would definitely update with all movies I have seen and would see. So, hope you enjoy it!!

So, talking about 'Band Baaja Baraat', it is actually a nice movie. I do not have a proper word to describe so I would get down to the basics. The lead pair looks adorable and made for each other. The guy acts amazingly and dances well. Anushka is cute in the movie. I find both lead pairs expressions amazing. And, if you do not like "Ainvayi Ainvayi" already, you would end up liking it by the end of the movie. The beats in the movie are awesome and sure to rock the marriages of the year. I loved the "Dum Dum" song too. First half is hilariously entertaining and barring some 30 minutes in second half, the movie goes well. Those 30 minutes make you feel the inadequacy of proper editing but then the climax covers it all. The Punjabi accent is obvious and that makes the movie even more realistic. A refreshing pair and story is what I would call the plus point of the movie. The guy is a must watch in the movie. If you find he is not that great-looking, you would end up liking his adorable character on the screen by the end of the movie. Best part of the whole thing is that you have no better movie to watch this week so go ahead and watch this movie. And, no I am not going to rate the movie on a scale of five.
